Paul van WamelenTheta functions and Jacobians of hyperelliptic curvesI'll recall the definition of the theta function and some of the beautiful identities they satisfy. I'll then explain how theta functions can be used to describe the Jacobian of an hyperelliptic curve. This description will be contrasted with other descriptions of the Jacobian. I'll then pose a problem whose solution might give us the best of both the analytic and the arithmetic viewpoint. |
