Pricing InformationFebruary 2008While Magma is a non-commercial system, we are required to recover all costs arising from its distribution and support. These costs include the porting to numerous different processors, the preparation of user documentation, distribution costs, a bug-fix service and general user support. Consequently, the distribution is organized on a subscription basis, whereby a site takes out a subscription to run Magma on one or more designated processors for a set period, usually three years. The subscribing site (or person) is provided with all new releases, bug fixes and some general support while the subscription is current. At the end of the subscription period a site either renews their subscription or continues to run the last version received while their subscription was active. The subscription cost depends upon the processor type. As a general indication, an educational institution taking out a three year subscription for one or more desktop machines (each with no more than 8 cores) would be charged US$ 1200 for a single machine, US$ 1800 for up to four machines, US$ 2400 for up to eight machines, etc. Rates for commercial and government organizations are higher. Discounted rates are available for educational institutions located in Newly Industrializing Countries. Full details of subscription rates for all classes of processors may be obtained by mailing us at the link or address below. A reduced-cost student version is available for PCs (Windows/Linux) and Macs (OS X). The student version is restricted to a workspace of 100 megabytes and certain advanced features are omitted. Transfer is normally arranged by download from this website though shipment via a CD can also be arranged for a small additional charge. Extensive documentation (including the Magma Handbook) is included with the distribution. Some individuals or institutions may be eligible for a reduced price on a Magma licence: see here for details.
